Boosters Scholarships!

Congratulations to MacKenzie Maddox and Alex Wrench, our 2016-17 Boosters Scholarship recipients!

MacKenzie Alex
MacKenzie participated in 3 sports all 4 years of her high school career. Her GPA is off the charts, she has received several Athletic Awards, numerous Academic Awards, and she is a member of so many organizations at PLP and off campus – and involved in so many activities – that it’s hard to figure out when she sleeps. In Coach Gordon’s words, “MacKenzie has proven to be a very dedicated and successful athlete over the last four years at Pine Lake, participating on the volleyball, basketball, and track teams. Not only is she a strong leader on each of her teams, but she also has earned all-conference honors. She has represented Pine Lake well, demonstrating consistent sportsmanship in all of her athletic contests.” Coach Sheryl Deffenbaugh says of MacKenzie “She is honest, dependable, and incredibly hard working. She is a true team player, and always manages to foster positive discussions among her teammates.” And finally, Coach Jen Ivey said “Mackenzie has demonstrated outstanding leadership skills by serving as a co-captain. She is caring, energetic, extremely coachable, and always eager to learn. Mackenzie wants only the best for her teammates and for Pine Lake, which is evident by her dedication to athletics, her studies, and all of her extracurricular activities.” Congratulations to this year’s Female Boosters Scholarship recipient - MacKenzie Maddox.
Alex participated in Tennis and Football all 4 years of High School. In his Senior year, he was also on the Varsity Basketball team. In football, he was All Conference Special Teams Player of the year in 2013-14 and named to the All Conference team in 2016-17. In tennis, he was named to the All Conference team and All Region teams for 4 straight years and the All State team for 3 years. Just this year, he won the Conference Championship in Doubles Tennis for the 2nd year in a row, went on to take 2nd place at Regionals, and then took 3rd place at States. In Coach Hayford’s words, “Alex became a very integral part of our football program and showed the confidence and athleticism that led him to be so successful in his junior and senior years. As our safety on defense and our kicker and punter on offense, Alex did a phenomenal job and provided the leadership that we needed on the field. Alex has taken his confidence and used it on the tennis courts as well and has had great success over the years. I have no doubt that Alex will be successful in his next endeavor, and I look forward to see him excel.” Coach Ebenhoeh had this to say about Alex: “Simply put, Alex is a coach's athlete. He's the first one there and the last one to leave. Run? Yes sir. Stretch? Yes sir. Play hard for 5 more minutes? Yes sir. You give this kid any type of sports equipment, and he will more than impress you. He has been a quiet leader who has worked diligently on his talent and composure over the years. He is a 4-time All-Region and 3-time All-State tennis player. His singles record this year was 8-1, but he played #1 doubles for the team, which means that he did play the best of the best!” Coach Ebenhoeh continues “He is very humble with all of his accomplishments, and may not realize that he has been one of the biggest impacts to the overall success of the PLP tennis program over the past few years. His heart, determination, talent, and personality will be missed for years to come.”  Congratulations to this year's Male Boosters Scholarship recipient - Alex Wrench.
